I feel like I’m waking up from a summer-long sleep, which is a strange thing, indeed, as there’s been so much going on since I last wrote you. There are numerous projects which have been taking up my time, and I’m happy to be able to finally share news on a few of them. I’m about to launch into the autumn and there’s new music to listen to, shows in Eastern Canada this month, and more! Read on…
Live Chamber Ensemble Album
First things first, I just finished mixing a live album! This April I put together a very special one-off orchestral performance at Sala Rossa in Montreal, where I had the pleasure of hand-picking some of my favourite musicians from across the country, who very kindly agreed to perform the arrangements I’d written. I think we made something really beautiful that night, but you can be the judge, as we captured the whole thing, sound and pictures, and just last week I finished mixing it with a fella named Steve Newton. Watch out for news on the release down the road (you’ll get a sneak preview as part of the mailing list), but for now you can listen to our re-interpretation of Onwards right here. The track features Emily Redhead (violin), Pemi Paull (viola), Hilda Cowie (double bass), Erla Axelsdóttir (French horn), Devin Wesley (bassoon), Louise Campbell (clarinet) and Camille Delean (voice). It’s a slow burn, so wait til you’ve got a quiet moment, put your feet up, put some headphones on and enjoy.
Forward Music Group 10 Year Anniversary Shows NEXT WEEK!
Our label, Forward Music Group, is celebrating its 10 year anniversary, and ‘Onwards’ is being released as part of a sampler of new tracks from Forward artists. You can stream or download the whole thing for free (just click on the “name your price” link and enter “0”) here. As part of the celebrations I’m playing solo during a rolling ‘revue’ show across Quebec and Ontario next week. On these bills I’ll be joined by Michael Feuerstack, Dan Misha Goldman, and Gianna Lauren, expect new songs and collaborations! Forward have been such a wonderful support since I first got involved with them in 2011, and I’m proud to be a part of the Bday celebrations!
*** Take note that Peterborough is an early show, and the Montreal show is in a very small venue, and those tickets will sell out fast, so get on it while you can! ***

Camille Delean Ontario Shows
I’ll be up in Ontario this weekend, too, playing bass with the wonderful Camille Delean. She just released her beautiful first record Music on the Grey Mile, produced by a long-time collaborator of mine Michael Feuerstack, and he and Evan Tighe (drums) will be completing the band for these shows. Check out the video for Timberline Rover.
On a personal note, this August I completed a very long journey and finally got my Canadian citizenship, 13 years to the day from when I first arrived in Nova Scotia! Ultimately, it was the music community in Canada that has kept me here and that made my mind for me to stay, so a sincere thank you to all of you for all the support over the years, I wouldn’t be here without you!
