Hello my dears
The year of unending celebrity depletion is sputtering to a close and I’m soaking up the snow here in Montreal, buckling down for the winter…
Since I last wrote to you some footage from my time in the mountains at Banff has emerged. You can watch a little piece about Richard Reed Parry’s (Arcade Fire) Music for Heart and Breath concert I took part in (with my favourite jumper and luminous stethoscope) below. We’ve also got a 6-piece band show coming up in Montreal this Saturday 17th at Casa Del Popolo where we’ll be playing at least 3 brand new songs. Hope to see you all soon, and if I don’t – Happy New Year to you all!
Montreal band show this Saturday!
I’ve roped in mr. Michael Feuerstack (guitar, lapsteel), Stefan Schneider (percussion), Alex Thibault (drums), Gregory Burton (euphonium, percussion), Tessa Kautzman (bass) to play with me this Saturday and it will be a very celebratory night with our good friends Wander Years – there are still some tickets left online, and I look forward to seeing you Montrealers down there!
Heart and Breath video
I had a really special time in the Rockies this autumn, and an undoubted highlight was taking part in a performance of Richard Reed Parry’s Music for Heart and Breath. The concept behind the music is that the tempo is decided by each individual musician’s heartbeat (hence the stethoscopes) and breath duration. I played some guitar, piano and clarinet, where the dry mountain air made it a real challenge to keep the reed wet, and my over-caffeinated heartbeat meant that I was usually racing well ahead of everyone else. You can hear Richard talk about the piece and see some footage of rehearsals and the performance right here.
That’s all for now, but keep your ears peeled – the new album is drawing closer to completion by the day, and there’ll be a very special Montreal orchestral performance coming up in March next year!
